RAM-Mount Review

RAM mount is an american company that specialises in making tough mounting systems for a wide variety of electronic devices. Their stands are designed to withstand tough environments, and are used for a wide variety of applications such as rugged vehicle, industrial, military and defence material handling as well as any application requiring a robust mounting solution. And this is where special ed fits into the equation.

While iPads can be fantastic for our students, often our student's aren't too gentle with the equipment. It doesn't take much for an iPad to fall (or be flung) off a table top or wheelchair tray and land on the ground, cracking its screen.

Having been designed for use in the military, RAM mount iPad holders are definitely tough enough to withstand whatever your students can throw at them.

Once ordered, they arrive in three parts that you put together. The suction cup base, the holder that the iPad actually locks into, and section in the middle that allows the mount to be positioned at any angle and then locked into place.

There are many different types of RAM-mount stands for iPads, with or without cases. You can choose bases that either suction cup to the table/tray or clamp to a wheelchair. There are also longer gooseneck style holders, that allow you more flexibility in positioning the iPad.

All of the mounts seem very versatile and stable. After 2 weeks in my classroom it has held up well against some rather rough handling. The suction cup is very strong, and it would take quite a bit of force to remove it from the table once locked in position.

At around $75 each, there are definitely cheaper options out there for iPad stands, however I’d still recommend this one, if only for the knowledge that your iPad is in safe hands.
